Description

The Three-Color Thorn/Horned Nerite Snail (Clithon corona/diadema) is an increasingly popular nerite snail that is native to East and Southeast Asia. This peaceful snail has a highly variable range of colors and patterns on its shell and is a very attractive and useful algae-eating scavenger that is great for the nano or planted aquarium.

The Horned Nerite Snail is slightly smaller than a standard Nerite Snail, and only reaches about 1/2-1 inch once fully grown. It is a scavenger that feeds continually and requires very little feeding in a well-established aquarium containing algae, biofilm, or decaying plant matter. We also recommend feeding them algae wafers, boiled vegetables, or snello.

NOTE: The color of the snail will be given at random, and can range from red to yellow to brown or black. Some of the snails given may be juveniles.

Happy and healthy

Our little horned Nerite quickly took up residence on our driftwood and has been diligently keeping it clean. A couple weeks after joining our tank she started laying eggs all over the driftwood. While it may not be aesthetically pleasing, it does mean she's very happy and healthy. I will be happy to purchase again when they get more in.

I ordered three horned nerites from Windy City Aquariums and had a fantastic experience. They answered all of my many questions with expertise and helpful tips, held onto my stock for me as I finished cycling my tank (with their help), and even helped to schedule the shipping to give my little snail guys the best chance on their journey from Chicago to sunny South Florida in July. They were carefully packaged with a cold pack and insulation, plus plenty of padding. All of them arrived happy and healthy and are now making quick work of the algae in my tank.
